School communication preparation
School District & IEP Meeting Navigation
School systems can involve many people, documents, and timelines. We help parents organize the available information and prepare focused questions for conversations with the IEP team.
Organize each school conversation
- Identify the purpose of the meeting or communication and the decision you need clarified
- Match each concern with the relevant IEP section, evaluation, progress report, or school communication
- Prepare concise questions and ask who is responsible for each follow-up item
- Keep dated notes and confirm important requests or agreements in writing
Keep communication specific and documented
A useful message names the concern, points to the relevant record or goal, asks a clear question, and requests a reasonable next step. Keeping copies of messages and meeting notes creates a shared history you can refer to later.
When the issue requires legal advice
SustainBL does not provide legal representation or decide whether a school has complied with the law. For legal deadlines, formal complaints, mediation, due process, or representation, consult a qualified special education attorney or an appropriately credentialed advocate in your jurisdiction.
